Parliamentary Monitoring Organizations: Developing a Global Action Plan
Description
In the aftermath of the release of the Declaration on Parliamentary Openness by parliamentary monitoring organizations (PMOs) around the world, PMO representatives will discuss plans to move forward with further collaborative projects on the global level. This could include discussions about regional adaptations of the Declaration, monitoring the provisions of the Declaration by developing a mechanism allowing PMOs to rank their national parliaments on compliance with principles of parliamentary transparency, developing a tool-kit of best practices for PMOs, utilizing data on surveys of global PMOs relating to use of technology, and the further collaboration of members of a technology working group. Comparative data on the general openness of 30 parliaments is available for use by participants interested in working with it, and data is currently being collected and will be available on the use technology and websites by PMOs.
