Helsinki City Appstore + Open Data Layers to Helsinki City’s Case Management Solution (AHJO)

Description

City Appstores Open Doors to New Era of Citizens’ Services. Case: Helsinki City Appstore

Today there are available already over a million apps in different public ecosystems (Windows Marketplace, Google Play, Apple App Store). Consumers are facing a challenge how to find relevant apps for them. Partly to answer this challenge, companies and public organizations have woken up to exploit apps in their modern communication.

Tieto and Helsinki region have started a pilot project to offer a new service channel to travelers and citizens, Helsinki Appstore. The pilot will open under the brand “Visit Helsinki” and allows users to find apps about travel tips, restaurant recommendations and public transportation route map services. Foreign visitors can download the app service in the “Visit Helsinki” office via offered WLAN, to avoid high phone usage costs. In the piloting phase the goal is to clarify how useful visitors find this kind of service.

The pilot project is basing on appstore service developed and productized by Tieto. This service enables the fast implementation of appstore services, which companies and public organizations’ can use to boost their internal or external communication activities.

Open Data Layers to Helsinki City’s Case Management Solution (AHJO): What Does This Mean to You?

Helsinki city wants to serve citizens and developers better by opening access to decision making information. Earlier the city has taken case management solution called AHJO in use. Basically opening data in AHJO means regular XML dumps, or in the future possibly also programming layers.  Read more about this case on Helsinki Region Infoshare webpage in Finnish.
