Africa Live! Live broadcast between Helsinki and Africa’s innovation and technology hubs


Description

A live link up between Helsinki and the Africa Innovation Hubs Web Gathering to share learning on the potential of open data for technical innovation and application development. There will also be an open discussion on the role of technology and innovation hubs in development addressing the question ‘can technology drive development?’

Presentations will be from Africa hubs leading in application development using open data.

Barbara BirungiCoHiveLab Uganda

Barbara  is the general manager of Hive Colab in Uganda - an innovation hub, business accelerator and incubator for East African technology startups whose mission is to build local tech capacity in East Africa for technologists and media arts. She is also the founder of WITU (Women in Technology Uganda), an organisation that seeks to encourage, inspire and train more women in the tech field through networking, training, mentoring and partnering. She has been the organizer of the Apps4Africa Uganda competitions sponsored by the US State Dept since its inception in 2010.

John NDungu

Dr. Jyrki Pulkkinen, Senior Adviser at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. Jyrki  is responsible for development policies related to Information Society, Science, Technology and Innovations.  He is also the Chair of the UNESCO IPDC Intergovernmental Council. Prior to joining the Ministry Dr. Pulkkinen worked as the CEO of GESCI, an UN ICT Taskforce initiated international organization based in Dublin and Nairobi.
