last to leave

Wednesday, April 27th, 2005

Dear Achers

We are sad to inform you, that Helen and I switched off the light on Suomenlinna last night. We could no longer defend ourselves from the hordes of international tourists, besides we had to go back to Paris. It was a long journey, as our bags are heavy from one too many bottles of Salmiakki flavoured vodka.

During our residency at NIFCA we had the chance to develop our project Nuage Vert (www.hehe.org/pollstream). We met with many people and institutions, most of who have voiced an open willingness to support the project and we are more than astonished that there might be a realistic chance for us to actually do the project here in Helsinki.

In short: many thanks to THE BRAIN (yes we are talking about HIM) and all the other Pixels and we hope to see many of you in the future.

For those of you who will be in Paris this week, Helen and I will present the work we have developed here in Helsinki @ www.confluences.net/avril - a sort of PixelAche in Paris (well, nothing like the real thing, of course), on the 28th of April at 18h30 – 19h30 : free entry.

wherever you are, whatever you do,

keep it burning

We have created a new word!

Saturday, April 23rd, 2005

pikseliahky word used in Helsingin Sanomat

The name of the PixelACHE Festival was originally found from an article which was trying to predict words which would emerge in future. The word ‘pixelache’ was supposed to describe an ‘overdose of digital media’. Interestingly enough, this is the way the word pikseliähky (the finnish word for pixelache) was used this week in an article in Helsingin Sanomat, the biggest newspaper in Finland. We have become an official part of Finnish language!

The word pixelache has been spreading quickly as well… The word produced zero hits in Google in 2002, before we started the festival… After the first event there were 28 hits in Google, earlier this year around 2800 and currently 45 500 (!)…
