Homokaasu.org is a website developed to promote artistic experiments. The site features many experimental web applications, projects and interactive, communal elements, such as The Rasterbator, GasGames and The Kill Everyone Project.

Fundamental to the project are the users - a community of 112,000 registered users in November 2005. Usually 10,000 of them are very active and visit every week, and 1,000 visit every other day.

'Homokaasu' is Finnish term, meaning 'gay-gas' and refers to a
fictitious chemical substance which became popularised through the spread of an urban myth in Helsinki during the 1980s. The myth alleged that the Roman Catholic Church used it to gain control over people. For a fuller explanation of the term please visit Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homokaasu. There are 400000 visits per month.

There have been features on homokaasu.org by several prominent media organisations including The Guardian, The Independent, BBC and ProSieben.
