Created in Spring 2004 for the Kiasma Theatre, The Grey Zone Weathermatrix combines live ambient music with a rich visual world in a multi-screen projection. The visual material consists, firstly, of photographs and videos made by members of the group. The second visual element is provided by Finnish Road Administration with its hundreds of web cams which are used to monitor the often hazardous road conditions. These photographs are revealed to be a fascinating and beautiful resource for artistic exploration.

The Grey Zone have captured still images from almost 200 road condition observation cameras. Software developed with Pseudotoad Laboratories enables real-time manipulation and organisation of this visual material, animating the images to transport the audience through the passage of day and night, through changing seasons and weather of Finland.
