SK - Incursions into Knob Culture / David Ellis + Jo Thomas /

“An audio-field diary investigation into a lesser known history of shortwave radio, the anxious childrens songs of Danny Kaye, and the murky world of 19th century table-rappers”
David Ellis

'Silent Key' refers specifically to a radio operator who has died, and therefore 'ceased to transmit'. Silent Key consists of an assemblage of interviews, found sounds, spheric utterances and composed electro-accoustic music. David will be accompanied by Jo Thomas, who has composed music specifically for the event.

RADIO RADIO / Laurence Lane /

Laurence will present and discuss the recent art project ‘RADIO RADIO’ by Work & Leisure International and Mel Brimfield. Radio Radio was exhibited at The International 3, Manchester and presented works by Lee Patterson, Automated Noise Ensemble, Rob Gawthrop, Harrison Stickle, Steven Renshaw, Laurence Lane and Black Basque.

rand()% / Tom Betts + Joe Gilmore /

Most web-radio stations broadcast archive programmes or relay live djs and audio performances in the manner of traditional radio. rand()% counters this predictable formula by presenting a radio station that is entirely automated, where every programme transmitted is composed in realtime by computer. All audio is generated on demand by a unique series of artist/musician developed programs.
