LOESJE

The poster-making collective Loesje began in a small Dutch provincial town in 1983; now they are sticking posters on walls in about 10 countries! Loesje members donīt share a particular ideology: they try to come up with slogans that make you think, rather than trying to tell a single truth. Sometimes the slogans are just to make you smile. Loesje is the name of a young girl, and all the posters are signed by her.

Most Loesje-posters are also on the web - somewhere. Anyone can print out the ones they like and stick it on a favourite wall. Anyone can suggest a text and become a member, and members can also vote for their favourite poster via the web. A discussion board is used by some members, and many subscribe to e-mail-list. The Internet has proved to be a useful tool to tell people what Loesje is about, to distribute the posters, and also as a way to work together.

However, most of the action is happening face to face. People gather together to make food, discuss and write slogans. Every year there is a summercamp, usually in Eastern Europe, where there are 2 weeks of workshops, parties and trips. No one is planning to make that virtual ;)

For an organisation that operates in many countries, and which is all about communication, the web is a bonus. But it also makes for a lot of work. Luckily you can also comment on the Internet: "TOO BAD YOU CANNOT TEAR UP A STUPID EMAIL" - Loesje
