Copenhagen Free University

The Copenhagen Free University opens up a public/private space to explore, document and intensify forms of know-ledge and being that are outside the narrow confines of the knowledge economy, conventional education and instrumentalised art production. As a "selfinstitution" it does not seek official legitimation and growth. Instead it is built upon self-generated forms of relations between people, and the development of strong social bonds. A room in an apartment functions as a living, working, reading and presentational space...

"The Copenhagen Free University opened in May 2001 in our flat. The Free University is an artist run institution dedicated to the production of critical consciousness and poetic language. We do not accept the so-called new knowledge economy as the framing understanding of knowledge. We work with forms of knowledge that are fleeting, fluid, schizophrenic, uncompromising, subjective, uneconomic, acapitalist, produced in the kitchen, produced when asleep or arisen on a social excursion - collectively". Henriette Heise and Jakob Jakobsen
