The theme for this year is VIDEOJUKKA, exploring the art of VJ'ing and improvised audiovisual performances. The main event will take place in Helsinki and the event will expand itself to two major cultural capitals : New York and Montreal.

The goal of this year's CHLYK_MINT (HKI - NYC - MTL) edition is to bring closer the audiovisual art communities in these three cities. All of the events will bring together participants from all the three cities, some of the artists will travel between the cities and some performances and collaborations will be implemented using real-time video streams.

The organisations in Helsinki are non-profit organisation Piknik Frequency and production company Olento. The venue in Helsinki is Kiasma, Museum of Contemporary Art. The collaborating organisation and venue in Montreal is SAT, Society for Arts and Technology.

The second pixelACHE // pikseliÄHKY temporary audiovisual lab will be set up in Kiasma, Museum of Contemporary Art in Helsinki. The event will feature 4 days of shows, screenings, workshops and discussions.

The main theme for this year's edition is VIDEOJUKKA : We explore the art of VJ'ing, the act of mixing and manipulating video material in a live situation in connection with the music. International and local VJ stars will perform and give workshops on VJ tools and technologies. Presentations and discussions will analyse the background and future of VJ'ing, as seen from the perspective of visual arts, filmmaking and other relevant contexts. The evenings are filled with performances and club events, where the VJ artists will collaborate and improvise with sound artists.

Following last year's tradition, pixelACHE will also feature a selection of interactive installations and experimental video works. These works are selected based mostly on why and how they were created, not necessarily demanding the actual result to be in a final and polished shape. Therefore we will see a lot of projects that present some strong and original ideas but are still at their very early prototyping phase.

pixelACHE // pikseliÄHKY laboratory offers a forum for professionals and students of arts and science who are interested in creative use of new media and technologies. The featured projects often combine various forms of artistic expression - film, performance, photography, software, sound and mobile media - all happily mixed together. In addition to presenting recent innovations and experiments, we will also explore various cultural and social phenomena related to technological development.

The first pikseliÄHKY // pixelACHE festival was organised in May 2002 in Helsinki, Finland. The event featured audiovisual experiments and creative misuse of technology and DIY lo-fi/hi-fi performances and installations. PikseliÄHKY 2003 continues on the same footsteps with a more specific theme.

PikseliÄHKY 2003 Call For Proposals (eng|fin) was released in December 2002 and attracted almost 200 proposals from all over the world.

Notice! The theme for pixelACHE // pikseliÄHKY 2004 is Audiovisual Architecture : Experimental projects combining media and architectural design. Interactive art installations, robots and sensors, projected environments and living surfaces. pikseliÄHKY artists will create projects around the city and give practical workshops.
