I am Visiting Fellow in Contemporary Archaeology in the Department of Archaeology where I teach on the Archaeology for Screen Media MA. I am also postdoctoral Research Associate for PARIP (Practice as Research in Performance) in the Department of Drama: Theatre, Film, Television. PARIP is a five-year project funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Board that investigates issues raised by practice as research in performance media, specifically theatre, dance, film and television.

My background in archaeology focuses on archaeology as a contemporary attitude towards understanding place, material and identity and spans an undergraduate degree in Art History (1990, University of British Columbia, First); MA in Archaeology (1992, University of Sheffield, Distinction); and PhD in Archaeology (1999, University of Sheffield), Celtic Constructs: Heritage Media, Archaeological Knowledge and the Politics of Consumption in 1990s Britain. From 1995-1997 I worked as a full-time Research Assistant with the Board of Celtic Studies on the 'Social Construction of Heritage and its Meanings in Modern Wales' project, based at University of Wales, Swansea. Between 1997 and 2000 I was Publications Officer for Cadw: Welsh Historic Monuments. Following maternity leave in 2000 I was keen to be employed in my current home city of Bristol and so jumped at the chance to pursue research in areas of performativity and practice, themes that ordered my thesis.

My current research interests are centred on intersections between historical and contemporary archaeology, and between archaeology, performitivity and practice. As part of these interests, I am co-organising the CHAT 2003 conference in November 2003.
